New CD's Coming Out

This time of year there are lots of new releases coming out of New Orleans, and I'm involved in 2 of the coolest: Honey Island Swamp Band's Good to You, coming out April 10th, and 101 Runners New Orleans Funk 101, April 9th.

Honey Island Swamp Band is one of THE hottest new bands in New Orleans, having just won Best Blues Album for their 2009 relase Wishing Well, and Best New Artist in the annual Offbeat Awards sponsored by Offbeat Magazine. This year they're at it again with Good to You, on Threadhead Records. I wrote and played the horn arrangements on all tracks, and the disc truly kicks ass, with fine songwriting and outstanding musicianship throughout.

101 Runners is fast becoming the cities premiere Mardi Gras Indian funk band. The music on New Orleans Funk 101 was recorded live at Tipitina's in December...I play bari sax throughout. I've just heard the final mixes, and I'm blown away. It captures the intensity and spontaneity of the Indian grooves, features the one and only Big Chief Monk Boudreaux at his absolute best, zigging and zagging with War Chief Juan and the super bad band. Indian funk is only in New Orleans, and this recording really catches the fiya!!
